ORCHARD DRIVE AND PRINGLE DRIVE (NORTHPARK GARDENS SOUTH TO PRINCE OF WALES DRIVE) WATERMAIN UPGRADE AND ROAD RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The Project |
The Pringle Drive and Orchard Drive from North Park Gardens south to Prince of Wales Drive (henceforth referred to as Orchard Drive) Road Reconstruction, Watermain and Sewer Improvements project will replace and renew the underground City services on the two streets and add a sidewalk on one side of each street. The project is intended to address existing water quality issues on the above-mentioned areas of Orchard Drive and has been identified by the City’s Environmental Services Division as a top priority project. Pringle Drive is in a similar condition to Orchard Drive. The City is proposing to include Pringle Drive (between North Park Street and Orchard Drive) as part of this project to ensure that the entire water main loop is replaced, reducing the possibility of having water quality issues occur on Pringle Drive following construction, as well as address the condition of the sanitary sewer and roadway. The road reconstruction will include installing a new roadbed, asphalt, curb and gutter, and adding a sidewalk on the south side of Pringle Drive and Orchard Drive, from North Park Street to Prince of Wales Drive, and the west side of Orchard Drive from Pringle Drive to North Park Street. The new sidewalks will be 1.5 metres wide to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Project drawings can be found here. |
The Benefits |
The project will provide significant benefits to all water, wastewater and road users on the street; upgrading an approximately 65+ year-old watermain ensuring a safe and secure supply of drinking water for residents for years to come. Storm water routing will be moved underground, reducing overland storm water flow, and allow for a sidewalk and boulevard installation, improving transportation for local walkers and runners. The existing sanitary sewer system will be upgraded reducing risks of a sanitary sewer leak or sewer back-up, and a new road surface will be installed improving travel conditions for vehicle and cycle traffic. |
Construction Impacts |
Efforts will be made to ensure there is minimal impact to local residences; however, there will be temporary lane closures and temporary impacts to driveways. Driveway impacts will be communicated to individual residents by the contractor. Your patience in this matter is appreciated. |
The Cost |
The project budget for this project is $5.90 million. |
The Project Schedule |
City Council has approved construction funding for this project to proceed in 2021. The project timeline is expected to be:
