Joint Municipal Candidate Information Session to be Held June 17

The City of Belleville, the City of Quinte West and the County of Prince Edward are inviting prospective candidates and interested residents to attend a joint municipal candidate information session ahead of the 2026 Municipal Election.

The session will take place on Wednesday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fireplace Room at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre, located at 265 Cannifton Rd. in Belleville.

Staff from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing's Eastern Municipal Services Office will present at the information session. They will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of municipal council members, as well as information on the legislative requirements for candidates considering running in the municipal election.

The session is open to anyone interested in running for municipal council, including the office of mayor, and/or school board trustee positions within Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County.

Clerk’s staff from all three municipalities will also be in attendance to provide information specific to each municipality’s nomination procedures and election processes.

“This session is a great opportunity for anyone considering municipal office to learn more about the responsibilities of the role and the nomination process,” said Katy Macpherson, Deputy City Clerk for the City of Belleville. “We encourage residents from all three municipalities to attend, ask questions and explore how they can become involved in local government.”

The session is free to attend and no registration is required.

Nominations are now open for the election. Individuals interested in running for office can learn more about nomination procedures and candidate requirements by visiting Belleville.ca/Election, QuinteWestVotes.ca and TheCounty.ca/Election.
