Terms of Use

The Terms of Use relate to the City of Belleville's online sites, including but not limited to the City's:

1. Corporate website and its related webpages (including any online services) and,
2. Corporate social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram  and LinkedIn.

The access and use of these "online sites" is subject to the terms and conditions listed below.

Privacy Policy

Protecting the privacy and personal information of individuals is an important consideration in the way we structure our online and offline activities. When visiting our websites there is no requirement to identify yourself.

The City's privacy policy applies only to those sites operated by the City of Belleville. The City does not control the privacy practices of external sites. Before submitting personal information, each individual should carefully review the privacy policies and practices of these sites.

Collection of Non-Identifying Information

The City of Belleville collects non-identifying information from your computer when visiting our websites. This information includes the Internet Protocol (I.P.) address, type of browser, date and time of visit, and the different webpages visited by you. This information is used strictly for statistical reporting purposes, and to design and improve access to information and services available on our websites. This information is not combined with other information or services to determine your browsing habits on websites beyond those operated by us, or to identify you personally.

Cookies

Cookie technology captures aggregate and not individual information on visitor use patterns. This is a computer code that tracks "traffic" so we can determine how effective our websites are in providing information and services to the public. A cookie contains no information that can identify you personally and the City of Belleville acquires no knowledge of your browsing path once you leave our websites. Apart from providing a performance measure, the data collected by the cookie is otherwise meaningless.

Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

There may be instances where your personal information is required to provide you with information or services. Where your information is required, the amount collected will be limited to the minimum amount and type necessary to provide you with the information or service requested. This information will only be used for the purposes for which it was collected and will not be used to create an individual profile or combined with other information held by the City to create a new database of information. Where the collection occurs a notice will state the legal authority, purpose and the name, address and phone number of the individual who can answer questions regarding the collection. The personal information that you provide will be used, protected and disclosed only in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Accessibility

The City of Belleville is committed to creating an accessible online environment and to making its web documents available to everyone. However, there may be instances where not all content is in an accessible format such as maps or Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) data; engineering drawings or complex technical data; and legacy applications or data. The City's websites are for your personal and non-commercial use. Unless specifically authorized by The Corporation of the City of Belleville, you may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, licence, create derivative works from, transfer, or sell any information, software, products or services obtained from this website.

 No Unlawful or Prohibited Use

As a condition of your use of the City's websites, you warrant to the City of Belleville that you will not use these websites for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms of Use.

Links to External Sites

For convenience purposes, our online sites may contain links to external websites operated by third-parties (e.g. Events & Meetings Online Calendar). The purpose of providing these external links is for your convenience and to avoid duplicating information that is already being maintained by a source organization elsewhere online.

Social Media accounts

The City's social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn, serve as a mechanism for disseminating information in a timely manner and enhancing the City's ability to share community news with a wide audience.

Third-party content (including community event information, comments and external links) posted on the City's social media accounts does not necessarily reflect the opinions and position of the City of Belleville, its employees and/or Council members. The City reserves the right to not post or to delete comments, links and other content that:

• are not topically related to the particular message or online site being commented upon
• are spam
• include foul language or vulgarities
• are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or abusive
• solicit/advertise/promote particular services, products, or political individuals, political campaigns, advocacy groups or organizations
• infringe on copyrights or trademarks

The material posted on our online sites is not an official statement of City policy, practice, services or procedure, and should not be construed as such. It is intended only to give general information about the City.
