Marriage Certificate

A marriage certificate is an official legal record of your marriage.

You may need it to:

  • Prove you are legally married
  • Apply for benefits
  • Settle an estate
  • Change or assume a last name

Before you can order a certificate, your marriage must be registered by your officiant. This typically takes eight to ten weeks.

You can then request your certificate through ServiceOntario.

Please Note: The Record of Solemnization of Marriage provided at your ceremony is not a legal certificate.

Marriage Ceremonies

The City of Belleville does not perform civil marriage ceremonies.
