Voters

The next Belleville municipal election will be held on October 26, 2026.

Voters will be able to cast their ballots through internet and telephone voting during the Voting Period starting Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. until Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. In addition, paper ballots will be available at the Voter Assistance Centres prior to Election Day.

Who Can Vote

You can vote if you:

  • Are a Canadian citizen
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Live in Belleville, or own or rent property in the city (or are the spouse of an owner or tenant)
  • Are not prohibited from voting under any law

The following are prohibited from voting:

  • a person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
  • a corporation;
  • a person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity; and
  • a person who was convicted of the corrupt practice, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which they were convicted.

Voters' List

Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the Permanent Register of Electors for Ontario, commonly known as the Voters' List. You must be on the voters’ list to vote. 

The deadline to confirm or update your information through Elections Ontario has now passed. If you need to be added to the Voters’ List or update your information, you can do so through the City Clerk’s Office beginning Sept. 1, 2026 until voting closes on Election Day.

When and Where to Vote

The Voting Period will start at 9 a.m. on Oct. 15 and end at 8 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

Electors will receive their Voter Information Letters (VILs) in early October. The VIL will contain the website address and toll-free telephone number to cast your vote electronically. Your VIL is also required to cast your vote at the Voter Assistance Centre.

Online and Telephone Voting

An individual may vote online or by telephone 24 hours a day, seven days per week during the Voting Period. 

Voter Assistance Centres

The City will be operating Voter Assistance Centres at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre and the Gerry Masterson Thurlow Community Centre.

The Voter Assistance Centres will operate on Oct. 21, 22, 23 and 24 from noon to 7 p.m., and on Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Paper ballots will be available at the Voter Assistance Centres on October 21, 22, 23 and 24. There will be no paper ballots on October 26.

Please ensure you bring identification that shows your name and qualifying address in Belleville. Acceptable ID is outlined below.
