Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are provided on-street and at City-owned parking lots and facilities. Accessible parking spaces are clearly signed and reserved for vehicles displaying a valid Accessible Parking Permit (APP).
Permit holders may park for free in an accessible space. If no accessible spaces are available, you may park in any other legal space at no charge. Ensure your APP is clearly visible and do not park in spaces where parking is restricted or prohibited.
What Is an Accessible Parking Permit?
An Accessible Parking Permit (APP) is issued by the Province of Ontario to individuals or companies and allows a vehicle to use designated accessible parking spaces. For permits issued to individuals, the person named on the permit must be in the vehicle and the permit must be visible on the dashboard or sun visor. Permits can be used in any vehicle the permit holder is travelling in.
For more information on Accessible Parking Permits, visit the Service Ontario website or a Service Ontario location.
Accessible Parking Rules
Even with a valid permit, you can receive a ticket if:
- the permit has expired
- the permit is used by someone other than the person named on the permit
- the vehicle is parked longer than the time permitted
- the permit is not displayed
Fines for improperly parking in a designated accessible space can be significant.
