Outdoor Winter Activities

Residents can enjoy a variety of outdoor winter activities in Belleville parks and trails, including skating, walking, sledding and ice fishing.

Winter conditions and weather may affect access to facilities and trails. Always follow posted signage and use caution when participating in outdoor activities.

Tobogganing is available at the following locations:

  • 401 Hill at West Riverside Park (344 Moira St.)
  • East Zwick's Park (11 Bay Bridge Rd.)
  • Clifford Sonny Belch Park (71 McFarland Dr.)

These hills are not maintained or supervised for sledding. Use at your own risk and follow these safety tips:

  • Use helmets when sledding
  • Children should be supervised by a parent or guardian
  • Use hills only when there is adequate snow cover
  • Do not sled when conditions are icy or when hills are posted closed
  • Do not build ramps or jumps
  • Wait until the hill is clear before starting down
  • Follow all posted signage

In an emergency, call 911. Report unsafe conditions to 613-967-0036.

Hours: Dawn to dusk (10 p.m. at 401 Hill due to lighting).

The City performs winter maintenance on select trails to support walking and recreational use during the winter months.

Maintained trails may include:

  • Bell Boulevard Trails
  • West Riverside Park
  • Parrott Riverfront Trail
  • Potters Creek Park
  • Edgerton Boyce Trail
  • Kiwanis Bayshore Trail
  • Jane Forrester Park and Trail
  • Werner Dietz Park
  • East and West Zwick’s Park

Trail maintenance may vary depending on weather conditions. Gravel trails are typically plowed only after the ground has frozen and a base layer has formed.

Avoid trails during icy conditions and follow all posted signage.

Seasonal outdoor skating is available when ice conditions allow.

City-maintained skating areas include:

  • Victoria Park
  • West Zwick's Park

Ice must reach approximately 10 inches in thickness before maintenance equipment can safely prepare the surface.

Additional community-run natural ice rinks may operate at parks such as:

  • Brimley Park

All outdoor ice rinks are unsupervised. Use at your own risk. Skating is not permitted on ponds, streams or creeks for safety reasons.

Ice fishing is permitted where access is available on the Bay of Quinte.

Public boat launches providing access include:

  • South George Street Boat Launch
  • Herchimer Avenue Boat Launch

Check ice conditions before heading out and follow Ontario fishing regulations.
