May try the facility swim test to go in deep water, but a parent or guardian must stay within arm’s reach at all times.
Pool Rules
To help everyone enjoy our pools safely, we ask all guests to follow a set of rules while in aquatic areas. These rules are designed to keep swimmers of all ages and abilities safe and comfortable during recreational swims, lane swims, lessons and other aquatic activities.
Please read the rules before your visit so you know what to expect and how to prepare.
General Rules
Before entering the pool, please be aware of the following rules:
- Swimmers must take a shower with warm water and soap and thoroughly rinse off all soap before entering or re-entering the pool.
- Swimwear is defined as "clean and for the sole purpose of swimming." Clothing worn outside of this purpose is not permitted within the pool.
- Long hair should be tied back.
- Footwear must be removed prior to entering the pool deck.
- The use of cameras, cellphones and other recording devices are not permitted on the pool deck, in the pool viewing gallery or in changerooms.
- Swimmers who are not fully toilet trained, or who may be unable to reliably control bowel movements, are required to wear an approved swim diaper while in the pool.
- Anyone with serious medical conditions should bring someone familiar with their needs who can directly watch them.
Swim Admissions Policy
To keep all swimmers safe, everyone should follow our pool admission rules. Children’s access to deep water depends on age, ability and a swim test.
May take the swim test. If they pass, they can be in the deep end while a parent or guardian remains in the facility. If they do not pass, they must stay in the shallow end within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian.
Must pass the facility swim test to enter deep water. Adult supervision is highly recommended.
May swim in any open area of the facility. May be asked to complete a swim test, at the discretion of the lifeguards. If unsuccessful, swimmers are to remain in shallow water.
The facility swim test requires swimmers to:
- Swim 25 metres without stopping or touching the bottom
- Regularly submerge face in water
- Show ability to take breaths
- Show strong forward movement and maintain a horizontal body position at the surface of the water throughout
Lane Swim Etiquette
To ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, please follow the lane swim etiquette tips below:
- Lanes may be shared by up to four swimmers per lane.
- If an empty lane is available, please use it.
- To book a private lane, please refer to the Indoor Pool Rental rates on our Indoor and Outdoor Pool Information page.
- If you are joining a lane with other swimmers, let them know before entering by dangling your foot in the water or sitting on the pool edge.
- Choose a lane with swimmers moving at a similar pace. Lane signs are available to help guide lane speeds.
- With two swimmers in a lane, communicate and agree to either swim in a counter-clockwise circle or split the lane, swimming side by side.
- When a third swimmer enters the lane, all swimmers must switch to counter-clockwise circle swimming.
- Before passing another swimmer, check that no one is approaching in the opposite direction.
- Pass safely, then return to your side of the lane.
- If you need to rest, stop in the corner of the lane, not in the middle.
- Allow other swimmers to pass.
- Do not speed up when someone is trying to pass you.
- Do not swim directly behind another swimmer, as this may increase the risk of injury.
- Do not use another swimmer’s equipment without permission.
- Be polite and respectful when sharing lanes.
- If needed, explain lane etiquette courteously.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please speak with a lifeguard.
Pool Fouling
In the event of a pool fouling, we must close the pool to clean it as per Health Regulations. These are unpredictable events and can mean a one to 13 hour closure. Help us prevent a fouling in the pool:
- Shower prior to entry and re-entry into the pool.
- Do not swim if you are unwell.
- Anyone not toilet trained must wear clothing (like a rubber pant or swim diaper) to keep waste contained.
Children sized swim diapers are for sale at the Customer Service Desk.
