Utility Locates
Planning to dig? You must request a utility locate before starting any excavation work.
A utility locate identifies underground infrastructure such as water, wastewater and stormwater pipes to help prevent damage, service disruption and injury.
Request a Utility Locate
Before digging, contact Ontario One Call to request a locate.

Ontario One Call notifies utility owners, including the City of Belleville, of your excavation plans.
When You Need a Locate
You must request a locate if you are:
- Installing a fence, deck or shed
- Planting trees
- Excavating for construction
- Replacing a driveway
- Digging for landscaping or drainage work
Even small projects can damage underground services.
What Happens Next
- Submit your locate request through Ontario One Call.
- The City reviews the request.
- City staff mark the location of underground municipal infrastructure, if applicable.
Do not begin digging until all utilities have responded and marked their infrastructure.
What the City Locates
The City of Belleville locates municipal:
- Water services
- Sanitary sewer services
- Stormwater infrastructure
Private utilities (such as gas, hydro, telecommunications or private water/sewer laterals beyond the municipal connection) are located by their respective providers.
Important Reminders
- Wait for confirmation that all locates are complete.
- Respect the marked lines and dig carefully.
- Locates are valid only for the timeframe indicated on your ticket.
- If your project changes, you may need to submit a new request.
Failure to obtain a locate may result in repair costs, service disruption, fines or liability for damages.
