Water and Wastewater Rates
The City of Belleville charges utility rates to cover the cost of delivering safe drinking water and treating wastewater. These fees help maintain infrastructure and ensure reliable services for residents and businesses.
What the Rates Cover
Water rates pay for:
- sourcing and treating drinking water
- operating water treatment plants and distribution systems
- maintaining pipes, hydrants and reservoirs
Wastewater rates pay for:
- collecting sewage through the sanitary sewer system
- treating wastewater at the Water Pollution Control Plant
- protecting public health and the environment
These rates support long‑term system sustainability and compliance with provincial requirements.
Water Meters
Water meters measure how much water your household or business uses. Billing is based on metered water consumption, ensuring customers pay for the water they actually use.
- Residential meters are typically read monthly or bi-monthly
- Meters help detect leaks early, support conservation, and improve billing accuracy
- Property owners are responsible for protecting their water meter from damage
How You Are Billed
Most customers receive a combined water and wastewater utility bill with:
- a fixed monthly service charge
- a consumption charge based on water use
Your bill shows how much you used and the total amount you owe. If you have questions about your bill or need help understanding charges, contact the City at the number on your utility bill.
Where to Find Rates
Detailed water and wastewater rates (including rates for residential, multi‑unit and commercial customers) are listed on the City’s municipal rates and fees page. This page is updated annually and includes all utility rate tables.
Other Related Charges
In addition to utility rates, you may see fees for:
- bulk water purchases at self‑serve stations
- disconnection/reconnection for non‑payment
- late payment charges
These fees are also included on the municipal Rates and Fees page.
