Sanitary Sewer

If you require any information on this page in an alternative format, please contact us. We will work with you to meet your accessibility needs.

The City of Belleville operates a sanitary sewer system that carries wastewater from homes, public buildings and businesses to the municipal Water Pollution Control Plant for treatment and safe return to the Bay of Quinte. Biosolids from the treatment process are used as fertilizer for agricultural purposes.

Report a Sewer Problem

If you see a sewer issue that requires immediate attention:

You can also use the City’s online problem reporting form to notify staff.

Your Sewer Connection

Property owners are responsible for the sewer pipe from their building to the property line. Blockages in this portion of the sewer are typically a homeowner’s responsibility to clear.

To protect the sanitary sewer and reduce blockages:

  • Do not put wipes, floss, rags, diapers, grease, food scraps, condoms, cigarette butts and similar items down drains.
  • Use participating pharmacies to return unused medications and sharps for safe disposal.
  • Take hazardous waste to the Quinte Waste Solutions depot at 75 Wallbridge Cres.

Wastewater Performance Reports

The City prepares annual reports on the sanitary sewer collection system and pumping stations that meet provincial reporting requirements.

Printed copies are available at the City of Belleville Operations Centre, 31 Wallbridge Cres.

Wastewater Financial Plan

While not required by the province, the City developed its first wastewater financial plan in 2025 to support long‑term sustainability and align with its wastewater rate model and asset management planning.
