The City of Belleville’s blue box recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization working to deliver an efficient and effective recycling system across Ontario.
This change was part of Ontario’s move to extended producer responsibility (EPR). Under EPR, the companies that produce and supply packaging and printed paper are financially and operationally responsible for recycling those materials.
What this means for residents:
- Recycling collection is no longer managed by the City
- There is no change to what materials are accepted in blue bins at this time
- Residents must continue to sort recycling as usual
Curbside Collection Day Changes
As a result of the transition, your curbside collection day for recycling, garbage and organics may have changed.
Previously, some households had different collection days for recycling and for garbage and organics. As of July 2025, all residents now have one weekly curbside collection day for recycling, garbage and organics.
