Looking to get rid of leaves, grass clippings or other yard waste? Here’s everything you need to know about how you can do it safely and for free in Belleville.
Leaf and Yard Waste Depot
Bring your yard waste to the Leaf and Yard Waste Depot at 75 Wallbridge Cres. (north side of the Public Works building) and drop it off for free during regular business hours. Here’s what you need to know:
- You’ll need proof of Belleville residency.
- Please place your leaf and yard waste in the designated area. City staff will help move it into bins.
- Paper bags are fine, but plastic bags are not accepted.
- Branches and brush should be cut into manageable sizes.
- Contractors can only drop off waste collected from Belleville properties.
- Garbage
- Lumber or manufactured wood items
- Kitchen food waste
- Animal carcasses
- Materials from food service or processing operations
These items should go in your regular weekly garbage or be composted at home.

Mondays 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Tuesdays 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Wednesdays 7:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Thursdays 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Fridays 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Unless otherwise announced, the depot is closed Sundays and on the following holidays:
Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Truth and Reconciliation Day, and Thanksgiving.
Curbside Leaf and Yard Waste Collection
Curbside leaf and yard waste collection is available two times per year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
Belleville is divided into six collection zones for leaf and yard waste pick-up. Make sure you know your zone pick-up dates and have your leaf and yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Here’s how to prepare your waste for collection:
- Use kraft paper bags, cardboard boxes, canisters, or bushel baskets. Items will be emptied and left at the curb.
- Tie branches and brush into small bundles.

Helpful Tips
- Leaving leaves in place in late fall and early spring is good for pollinators, insects, and wildlife.
- You can also mulch or compost your leaves for use in your garden or flowerbeds.
Christmas Tree Collection
Each January, the City provides curbside collection for natural Christmas trees on scheduled dates.
To prepare your tree:
- Remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and tree stands.
- Do not place the tree in a bag.
- Place the tree at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Artificial trees are not accepted through this program. Please dispose of them through regular garbage collection if necessary.
Collection dates are posted annually on the City website as they become available.
