Tax Credits and Rebates

The City offers property tax credits and rebates to help eligible residents and registered charities reduce their property tax costs. Applications and questions about rebate forms can be directed to the Taxation office at 613‑967‑3243.

Low Income Senior Property Tax Credit

This credit provides a $1,200 reduction in property taxes for eligible seniors who:

  • Are 65 years of age or older by Dec. 31 of the current year;
  • Receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement under the Old Age Security Act (Canada); and
  • Own and occupy the property as their principal residence.

Applications must be submitted each year by Aug. 31. They can be submitted in person or online once they become available after Council approves the annual budget.

Persons with Disabilities Property Tax Credit

This program provides a $1,200 credit for eligible property owners who:

  • Receive Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits; and
  • Own and occupy the property as their principal residence.

Applications must be made annually by Aug. 31 once available after Council approval of the budget.

Property Tax Rebates for Eligible Charities

Registered charities that lease space in commercial or industrial class properties may receive a 40% rebate on property taxes. Rebate applications are accepted Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 each year. The landlord may be contacted by the charity for required information.

Completed applications can be submitted in person at City Hall or online where specified.

Deadlines vary by program, so check current eligibility dates before applying.
