The City collects household organic waste every week through the Green Bin program.

Using Your Green Bin

Place your green bin at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day. Here's what you need to know:

  • Organics must be placed in the City-issued green bin.
  • The lid must be fully closed and latched.
  • Place the bin at the end of your driveway, on your property.
  • Keep the bin clear of the road and sidewalk.

Do not place materials in plastic bags unless the bag is certified compostable.

Bins containing unacceptable materials will not be collected.

Food Waste

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps
  • Meat, poultry and fish (including bones)
  • Dairy products
  • Bread, rice and pasta
  • Coffee grounds and filters
  • Tea bags
  • Eggshells

Soiled Paper

  • Paper towels
  • Napkins
  • Soiled paper bags
  • Pizza boxes (greasy)
  • Food-soiled cardboard

  • Plastic bags (including biodegradable or oxo-degradable bags)
  • Pet waste
  • Diapers and sanitary products
  • Yard waste
  • Recyclable materials
  • Construction or demolition materials

Bins containing unacceptable materials will not be collected.

Damaged or Missing Bins

If your green bin is damaged, missing or needs repair:

Missed Collection

If your green bin was not collected:

  • Confirm your collection day using the online Curbside Collection Map.
  • Ensure the bin was placed at the curb by 7 a.m. and contains only accepted materials.
