Book On-Site Inspections
When the building permit has been issued, a list of required inspections for the project will be provided at the bottom of the permit.
Below is a list of standard inspections:
- Services (prior to covering)
- Excavation (prior to pouring footings)
- Foundation (prior to backfilling)
- Underground Plumbing (prior to covering)
- Framing and Mechanical Rough-In (prior to insulation)
- Plumbing Rough-In
- Air Barrier
- Wood Burning Appliance
- Insulation and Vapour Barrier (prior to drywall)
- Fire Separations and Fire Stopping
- Fire Protection Systems
- Substainital Completion of Fire Access Routes
- Prior to Filling Swimming Pool with Water
- Prior to Occupancy
- Final
Failure to have the required inspections performed may result in you having to uncover and expose the work for inspection. Additionally, work that requires inspection must not be covered, concealed or enclosed before it is inspected; this includes filling swimming pools with water prior to the applicable inspection taking place.
Any proposed changes from the approved plans must be approved by a Building Inspector PRIOR to construction.
It is the owner's (or contractor's) responsibility to notify the building inspector when ready for an inspection. An inspection will take place within 2 business days, except for Occupancy Inspections which will take place within 10 business days.
Booking an Inspection
To book an inspection, please contact the building inspector that issued the permit. Their contact information will be provided on the building permit. If the building inspector is unavailable, contact a Permit Clerk of the Building Section at 613-967-3200 ext. 3230.
Please note the following information to be provided prior to request of framing inspection:
- Engineered stamped truss drawings and truss layout for roofs constructed of pre-engineered roof trusses
- The floor system design and layout as supplied from the manufacturer when pre-engineered floor joists are used
- Heating and ventilation design (HVAC)
Additional Inspections for Temporary Tent Permits
Depending on what you are proposing to use the tent for you may also require inspections from the following agencies:
- Belleville Fire Prevention – Responsible for inspection with respect to fire safety & cooking appliances.
- Electrical Safety Authority – Responsible for inspection when any temporary electrical power or supply is used.
- Technical Standards and Safety Authority – Responsible for inspection when propane or other hydrocarbon fuel is used for cooking or any other purpose.
