We ensure that all traffic control activities within the City are undertaken in accordance with:
- Current Ministry of Labour regulations
- The Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 “Temporary Conditions”
- The Highway Traffic Act
- The City of Belleville Traffic By-law No. 12967
Half-load restrictions
Half-load restrictions are in effect on rural roads from Feb. 15 to April 30 each year, unless otherwise announced.
During the spring thaw, many rural roads become soft and are unable to support the weight of fully loaded trucks, regardless of the number of axles. To help protect road infrastructure, half-load restrictions are applied to select roadways during this period, in accordance with By-law 2021-49. Depending on weather conditions, restrictions may be implemented earlier than Feb. 15.
Drivers are required to follow all posted signage indicating half-load restrictions. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to prevent road damage and maintain safe travel conditions as temperatures rise.
