RV, Trailer and Boat Parking

The City of Belleville permits the parking and storage of recreational vehicles (RVs), trailers and boats on residential properties, subject to the requirements of the Zoning By-law.

Eligible Vehicles and Watercraft

Recreational vehicles, trailers and boats include self-propelled or towable vehicles designed for short-term recreational use, including:

• Travel trailers
• Tent trailers
• Pickup campers
• Motorized campers
• Boats and boat trailers

Permitted Parking and Storage Locations

Recreational vehicles, trailers and boats may be parked or stored:

• On a driveway
• In an interior side yard
• In a rear yard
• Inside a private garage

All recreational vehicles, trailers and boats, including any trailer hitch, tongue or similar attachment, must be located a minimum of 1 metre from any lot line.

Prohibited Parking, Storage and Use

Recreational vehicles, trailers and boats must not:

• Occupy required parking spaces needed to meet zoning requirements.
• Be parked or stored on landscaped lawn areas or other soft landscaping.
• Be used for human habitation.

Recreational vehicles, trailers and boats are intended for storage only and may not be used as a dwelling or residence at any time.

Parking and Storage Limits

A maximum of two recreational vehicles, trailers and/or boats may be stored on most residential properties.

Where a recreational vehicle or boat is stored on a trailer, the vehicle or boat and trailer are considered one unit for the purpose of this limit.

Properties zoned Rural Residential (RR) may store up to five recreational vehicles, trailers and boats.
