Residential Parking

Residential On-Street Parking

The rules for on-street parking vary depending on whether a street has a curb as described below.

Additionally, drivers should be aware of signage which may restrict parking in certain areas and they should never park in front of fire hydrants, bus stops or near corners.

Curbed Streets

A curbed street is defined under our Traffic By-law as a street with a definite demarcation between the edge of the roadway formed by either a concrete curb, gutter, curb and gutter combination or combined curb and sidewalk.

Overnight parking is prohibited on all curbed streets throughout the entire year regardless of the weather forecast. You may park on curbed streets during the day from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., for a maximum 12 hours per day unless otherwise posted.

Non-Curbed Streets

Non-curbed streets typically have a gravel should or grass that directly meets the asphalt of the road on both sides.

Overnight parking is allowed on non-curbed streets during the warmer months. From Nov. 1 to April 15, overnight parking is prohibited from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Residential Driveway Parking

When parking in your driveway, ensure that your vehicle is not blocking any portion of the sidewalk or extend into the travelled portion of the road.

The boulevard/apron is the section of a driveway between the sidewalk and the street. This area is the entrance point for many municipal services and may need to be accessed at any time to repair or improve services.

Parking on the driveway apron is permitted from April 15 to Nov. 1, provided the vehicle fits entirely within the apron, does not interfere with traffic flow and does not impede the sidewalk in any way. Parking on the driveway apron is prohibited from Nov. 1 to April 15 to support winter maintenance operations and ensure equipment can access the boulevard area as needed.

Additionally, vehicles must be parked on an approved surface such as concrete, asphalt or gravel. It is a violation to park a vehicle on the front lawn.

Traffic Bylaw 12967 has existed since 1990. Previously, ticketing was primarily complaint-driven, meaning that enforcement relied on individuals reporting violations. However, on Sept. 12, 2022, Council Resolution 336-2022 was carried, resulting in a significant change in service level. The resolution shifted to enforcement-based ticketing on weekends and overnight hours.
