Spooky Season Returns to Glanmore This October

Glanmore National Historic Site, located at 257 Bridge St. E., is embracing the spooky season once again with a month of Halloween-themed events and activities this October.

From creepy Victorian curiosities and after-dark museum tours to ghost adoptions and family-friendly trick-or-treating, Glanmore has something for visitors looking for a little mystery, history and Halloween fun.

Kick off the spooky season during Culture Days with Adopt a Ghost at Glanmore on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Fifteen handcrafted ghosts are looking for their forever homes. Participants will choose a resident spirit, give it a unique artistic makeover and learn its backstory before receiving an official adoption certificate. The evening also includes an exclusive curator-led tour of the Creepy Curiosities exhibit.

This free event is most appropriate for ages 14 and older. Parental guidance is recommended. Donations are appreciated. Advance registration opens Sept. 18 at Glanmore.ca.

Also beginning Oct. 1, the Creepy Curiosities exhibit returns with even more of the darker and stranger side of Victorian life. On display until Nov. 2, the exhibit features unusual artifacts, old superstitions and fascinating stories that reveal how Victorians understood death, mystery, science and the unknown.

Creepy Curiosities is included with regular museum admission and is most appropriate for ages 14 and older. Parental guidance is recommended.

Experience Glanmore after dark during House of Curiosities on Thursday, Oct. 15. A sensory-friendly hour will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by timed entry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Visitors can explore the Creepy Curiosities exhibit while enjoying music by Kris Tischbein, try a just-for-fun tea leaf reading and discover other mysterious and Halloween-themed activities throughout the historic house.

Special event admission rates apply. Tickets go on sale Sept. 15 at Glanmore.ca or can be purchased in person at Glanmore. The event is most appropriate for ages 14 and older. Parental guidance is recommended.

Finally, little ghosts and goblins are invited to stop by for Trick-or-Treating at Glanmore on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Families trick-or-treating in Belleville's East Hill neighbourhood can visit the museum for a free treat while supplies last.
