A 25% tariff on auto imports was announced on April 2nd. The tariff will apply to all cars and auto parts manufactured outside the United States. Canada is exempt from a 10% baseline tariff applied on imports to the U.S.. Tariffs continue to be imposed on steel and aluminum products (25%), on select Canadian export items (25%), on energy products (10%), with an exemption for Canadian goods compliant with the Canada-United-States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), and on potash (10%).

The Government of Canada has issued a notice of intent to implement a second round of tariffs and is seeking views on imposing counter-tariffs on $125 billion imports of additional goods, subject to a 21 day comment period prior to implementation.
