As of June 4, 2025, the United States imposed tariffs on key Canadian exports, including: 50% tariff on steel and aluminum imports (Increased from 25% to 50%, effective June 4). 25% tariff on Canadian-assembled vehicles with non-U.S. components and on most non-CUSMA-compliant imports. 10% tariff on energy, energy resources and potash. On July 10, President Trump stated that the U.S. would impose a blanket 35% tariff on imports starting August 1, 2025. An exclusion for goods covered by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was expected to stay in place as well as tariffs on energy and fertilizer.

Government of Canada Announces New Measures to Protect Canadian Businesses and Workers: On March 7, 2025, the Government of Canada has announced new measures to protect Canadian businesses and workers, including the launch of a Trade Impact Program ($5 billion over two years), $500 million in favourably priced loans through the Business Development Bank of Canada and $1 billion in new financing through Farm Credit Canada.
