Belleville City Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to noon with MP Chris Malette (Bay of Quinte) and MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman (Hastings–Lennox and Addington–Tyendinaga).
The meeting will give Council and local Members of Parliament an opportunity to discuss several issues affecting the City of Belleville and municipalities across the region. Topics will include the importance of consulting with the City on federal legislation and programs related to planning, development and other matters that impact municipal operations.
Council will also discuss housing and homelessness, including funding and government expectations tied to homelessness supports, mental health initiatives and access to primary care.
Discussion will also include major projects and initiatives that may affect Belleville residents, including the proposed Alto high-speed rail corridor and related federal legislation.
Additional topics include financial pressures on municipalities as responsibilities are increasingly downloaded from other levels of government, as well as opportunities for federal partnership on infrastructure and economic development projects that support regional growth.
Council will also follow up on previous resolutions and correspondence sent to federal offices that have not yet received a response.
The meeting will be livestreamed, and the full agenda is available on the City’s website.
