The City of Belleville is moving forward with the Bridge Street East Reconstruction Project to address aging infrastructure between Herchimer Avenue and Haig Road.
The project is a proactive investment in replacing critical underground infrastructure and improving the long-term reliability of the City’s water, sanitary and road systems in this corridor.
The existing watermain has reached the end of its service life and has experienced frequent breaks, making replacement necessary to reduce future service disruptions and emergency repairs. The existing sanitary sewer has also reached the end of its service life and has numerous breaks and infiltration. As part of the project, the current clay or asbestos cement sewer will be replaced with new PVC pipe, and existing cast-in-place maintenance holes will be replaced with new precast maintenance holes.
“Investing in infrastructure before failures occur helps us reduce service disruptions and plan responsibly for the future,” said Kyle Hope, Project Manager. “This project will strengthen the reliability and resilience of essential services for residents and businesses along Bridge Street East.”
Construction will result in temporary traffic, access and service impacts. The City will share updates in advance and throughout the project to help residents and businesses plan accordingly. Once complete, the upgrades will improve long-term reliability of water and sanitation services, road conditions and overall infrastructure resilience along the corridor.
A public consultation centre will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Belleville City Hall (169 Front St.), in the SMB Room (third floor), to provide project details, anticipated timelines and information on what to expect during construction. Residents and businesses are invited to drop in anytime between 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.; as no formal presentation will be made, attendees are encouraged to come at their convenience. Any comments or inquiries can be directed to the Project Manager at construction@belleville.ca or 613-967-3200 ext. 3454.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow project updates through Get Involved Belleville and the City’s communication channels.
