The Cities of Belleville and Quinte West are teaming up to help residents reduce waste and give gently used items a new life during fall curbside Giveaway Days.
Beginning Saturday, Oct. 18, until Sunday, Oct. 19, place unwanted items in good condition curbside for others to take. Giveaway Days, happening ahead of Waste Reduction Week (Oct. 20-26, 2025), help divert items from landfills by encouraging residents to put unwanted, gently used items at the curb for others to take. Put giveaway items curbside starting at 8 a.m. and bring any remaining items back inside by 8 p.m.
Appropriate items to give away include:
- DVDs
- Books
- Furniture
- Home decor
- Small appliances
- Kitchen items
- Construction materials
The Consumer Product Safety Directorate of Health Canada advises against giving away cribs, car seats, strollers, bath seats and playpens to avoid unsafe use.
“Participating in Giveaway Days is a simple yet impactful way to help reduce waste and foster sustainability in our community,” said Councillor Enright-Miller, Chair of Belleville’s Green Task Force Committee. “By sharing items that we no longer need, we can significantly reduce landfill waste and help out our neighbours at the same time. I encourage everyone to have a look around their homes and put any gently used and unwanted items to the curb on Oct. 18 and 19.”
“Giveaway Days are back again this year! Both cities look forward to this initiative every year as a way to reduce waste and give a new lease on life to any household items that others may still use,” said Councillor Zack Card, Chair of Quinte West's Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee. “This is a meaningful way for the community to give back to one another by donating, and to support the environment ahead of Waste Reduction Week. Every item that is diverted from a landfill is a step toward a more sustainable Quinte West.”
