March 8 marks International Women’s Day, and this year, we are highlighting some of the incredible women who keep our municipality running.

Deanna Ridgley
Meet Deanna, Supervisor of Fleet and Maintenance Contracts in our Transportation and Operations Department!
Deanna oversees the purchasing and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment, as well as the maintenance contracts for infrastructure, such as road resurfacing and sidewalk repairs. She plays an important role in maintaining the assets that keep our city moving.
Drawn to municipal public works by the opportunity to make a difference in the community, Deanna says she enjoys the problem-solving and the responsibility that come with maintaining public assets
“I was drawn to a career in municipal public works because it has given me the opportunity to make a real, visible difference in the community. The Transportation and Operations department is where ideas turn into action.”
Her advice to young women considering the field?
“Don’t be afraid to step into a field that’s traditionally been male-dominated. Your perspective and leadership can truly shape the communities you serve.”

Victoria Gibson
Meet Victoria, a Senior Project Manager on our engineering team!
As a Civil Engineer, Victoria manages complex capital projects, consultations and technical design reviews. She works closely with consultants, contractors and City teams to deliver the infrastructure our community relies on every day.
Inspired by a passion for development and problem-solving, she was drawn to civil engineering because of its real-world impact.
“Civil engineers help deliver the infrastructure people rely on every day, such as roads, water systems, transit and public facilities. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing all the effort translate into real improvements for the community where I was born and raised."
Her advice to young women considering engineering?
“Don’t be intimidated by a male-dominant field; your perspective is needed. Explore the range of civil engineering, gain hands-on experience early, and identify what you enjoy and where you want to specialize.”

By-Law Enforcement Team
Meet our By-Enforcement Team!
Our By-Law Enforcement team is made up entirely of women, including our Manager of By-Law Enforcement and three By-Law Enforcement Officers. Their work focuses on ensuring compliance with regulatory by-laws such as property standards, land maintenance and business licensing. Through an education-first approach, they work with residents and businesses to support fair, transparent enforcement, helping maintain community standards while improving understanding of local regulations.
We’re proud to recognize their dedication and the important role they play in supporting the health, safety and quality of life in Belleville every day.

We’re proud to celebrate Water Treatment Plant Operators Joanne and Amy, who were recently featured in the Treatment Plant Operator magazine as part of a spotlight on women in the water industry.
In the article, they share their experiences building careers in water treatment, the continual learning the profession requires, and the importance of strong mentorship and support in the field. Their story reflects the growing role women play in the water industry and the important perspectives they bring to the profession.
