The City of Belleville is closely monitoring the recently-announced U.S. tariffs and their potential impact on local businesses, manufacturers and supply chains. These measures, which include a 25 per cent duty on Canadian exports and a 10 per cent duty on energy exports, may pose challenges for some industries. The City is affirming its commitment to supporting businesses as they navigate these changes.
To assist affected businesses, the City of Belleville has launched the U.S. Tariff Impact & Business Support Portal, a centralized hub providing up-to-date information and resources to help businesses assess and respond to the evolving trade landscape. The portal includes:
- A Business Impact Survey to gather insights from local businesses on how U.S. tariffs impact their business to assist in providing tailored support.
- Key resources and analysis on the effects of U.S. tariffs, including guidance from economic experts.
- Information on available government support programs and financial assistance options.
“We are disappointed by the introduction of these tariffs and recognize that they could have implications for businesses in our community,” said Mayor Ellis. “While the full impact remains to be seen, the City of Belleville remains steadfast in our support for local businesses and manufacturers. We will continue to advocate for fair trade policies and ensure that businesses have access to the resources they need. I encourage our business community to take advantage of the resources available through this portal and, if they haven’t already, to connect with our dedicated and proficient economic development team for guidance as we navigate what is next.”
“We recognize the uncertainty and challenges these tariffs present for our businesses,” said Victoria Watts, Business Growth and Retention Specialist. “Our goal is to provide timely, relevant support and resources to help businesses adapt and respond effectively. The U.S. Tariff
Impact & Business Support Portal is one way that our City can support businesses in this challenging economic environment.” For more information, visit Belleville.ca/Tariffs or contact Victoria Watts, Business Growth and Retention Specialist.
