The 2026 Capital Budget and 10-Year Capital Plan were approved during yesterday’s special meeting of Belleville City Council.
The capital budget is the City’s plan for making large investments in infrastructure and services. Capital expenses include major maintenance to public buildings, construction or purchase of new buildings, purchase of major equipment, significant road resurfacing projects, water and wastewater infrastructure, and more. The 10-year Capital Plan provides a roadmap for capital projects and investments in the long-term.
Earlier this year, the City conducted a preliminary survey to develop guidelines for budget preparations. The results were then presented to the Finance Committee and council, and used to develop the draft 2026 Capital Budget and 10-Year Capital Plan. A secondary survey then ran from Oct. 6 to Nov. 3 where community members were asked to provide input on both draft documents, and feedback collected was considered prior to today’s meeting.
The approved Capital Budget and 10-Year Plan are now available online at: Belleville.ca/Budget.
The 2026 Operating Budget Meeting will be held in February. Once both budgets are approved, municipal tax rates will be set which will determine property taxes for the year. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to the Get Involved webpage for future engagement opportunities and more information.
