Mayor Neil Ellis and Belleville City Council are pleased to announce they have selected a replacement for current Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Rod Bovay upon his retirement later this year – City Clerk and Director of Corporate Services Matt MacDonald.
Matt has over 25 of years experience in the municipal sector and has served as City Clerk and Director of Corporate Services since 2012. Prior to joining the City of Belleville, he held positions with the County of Prince Edward as Supervisor of Revenue Services/Tax Collector, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing as a Municipal Advisor and the Municipality of Centre Hastings as CAO/Clerk.
In his current role, Matt effectively leads and coordinates the Corporate Services department, consisting of 23 employees, and provides strategic direction and professional advice to City Council, Boards and Committees of Council, other City departments and the public, with respect to Council actions, by-laws, policies, procedures and the administration of municipal elections.
Matt’s formal education is in legal administration, and he has furthered his education with the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario through the Municipal Administration Program, where he holds an Executive Diploma in Municipal Management.
“Matt has proven to be a respected and contributing member of the City’s Executive Management Team,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “We are very pleased that he has accepted this role and are confident that the City will continue to operate effectively through this transition with his direction. On behalf of Belleville City Council, I would like to thank Rod Bovay for his outstanding service with the City over the years, and congratulate Matt on his new role.”
The appointment will take effect upon CAO Rod Bovay’s official retirement in August.
