Planned capital road maintenance for 2024
The City's Operations Section maintains a comprehensive road maintenance program to help extend the life of the roads, prolonging the need for more expensive reconstruction.

2024 Roads that will receive the application include:
Application of the product will occur over summer 2024. Reclamite is designed to restore/rejuvenate roads that are dry, brittle, starting to break up, exhibiting cracks, loss of aggregate, etc. The process stops further degradation and extends the life and condition of the roads. This is a highly cost-effective preventative maintenance technique used to maintain roadway condition and safety. |

Slurry seal |

This contract is anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2024. Slurry Seal application is well suited as a preventive maintenance treatment to extend the life of low traffic volume pavements. Preventive maintenance treatments are low-cost treatments that delay deterioration of the pavement, maintain or improve the functional condition of roadways, and extend the pavement’s service life when applied to suitable candidates. |

Asphalt resurfacing |

This contract is anticipated to be completed by mid October 2024. The work includes pulverizing the existing road surface, adding up to 25 mm Granular “A” gravel to fine grade, with 80 mm Asphalt (40mm HL8 and 40 mm HL3 hotmix asphalt). |

Shave and pave |

Surface treatment |
||||||||||||||||||||
The following locations will receive surface treatment as part of this contract:
This contract will be completed by Fall 2024. These Roads have been identified in the Roads Need Study as requiring rehabilitation. They will be pulverized back to a gravel state, with additional gravel added. This will be followed by an application of Surface Treatment over the entire road. The preparation work (trees, ditching, and culverts) will be performed by City forces and a contractor will perform the pulverization and surface treatment applications. This year’s program will also include Single Applications on roadways that were done approximately 5 years ago. |

Sidewalk replacement and repairs |

The Sidewalk Repairs and Replacement Program addresses deficiencies in our sidewalks. Sidewalk deficiencies generally consist of broken, cracked, shifted panels, etc. which present a hazard to pedestrians. Transportation and Operations Services develops a prioritized list of deficiencies to be repaired each year based on the budget allocated for Sidewalk Repairs and Replacement annually. Sidewalk replacement contract to be determined for 2024. |
