If there is a change in the status of your property due to damage by fire, demolition, change in use, etc., notice in writing must be given in-person to City Hall or by email to the tax office using the Reductions and Rebates (Section 357/358) Application.
Applications for current year must be received by the last day of February of the following year. For example, if you are submitting an application under Section 357 for the year 2023, you must apply by the last day of February 2024.
Applications for the previous two years must be for a full year from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. For example, you can submit an application under Section 358 for 2022, 2023 by the last day of February 2024.
Please note: the City of Belleville has delegated its powers for tax relief due to sickness or extreme poverty under Section 357 (1) (d.1) of the Municipal Act, to the Assessment Review Board (ARB). The ARB is an independent adjudicative tribunal that hears appeals from property owners who believe that their properties are incorrectly assessed or classified. We will forward a copy of your application to the ARB. Please note, the ARB will require copies of supporting documentation from you for income and expenses claimed on this application form. If you are making this application for medical reasons, the ARB will require copies of any supporting medical documentation that would relate to this application.
